EUROPEAN BEST ENGINEERING COMPETITION

History of EBEC

Canadian Engineering Competitions (CEC) organised by Canadian Federation of Engineering Students (CFES) were the starting point of Competitions in BEST. The idea of organising competitions was promoted in GA 2002 and in Summer Courses organised that same year. In those very first days, the Competitions Core Team was planning already to have a pyramidal system for the competitions in BEST. They wanted to have new groups formed at higher levels to keep up with BEST spirit - meaning that participants had to work with people from other countries that they haven’t met before.

The first competitions were organised in 2002 and since then more and more LBGs started organising competitions each year, reaching a total number of 84 Local EBEC rounds in 2017.

Since 2009, BEST has been organising National/Regional rounds and the European Final. Although local competitions had been happening across Europe for a few years, BEST decided to take it to the next level and unify the concept of competitions into European BEST Engineering Competition - a European-size competition chain aim to qualify the best engineering students of Europe.

The EBEC logo itself is composed of the logomark and the logotype. The logomark represents a gear (or «cogwheel»), which is the symbol of engineering competitions. The gear is composed of five different people, holding each other’s hands, representing the collaboration that is needed to succeed in an engineering competition.

EBEC Russia 2019 will be held in the local BEST group Ekaterinburg. The Ural State University of Communications opens its doors for the winners of the local EBEC stages in Ekaterinburg, Moscow and St. Petersburg. The winners of EBEC Russia will go to the last stage of the EBEC Final in Turin.
